REQUIEM AETERNAM: BIO -ENGLISH [SPANISH]-
Requiem Aeternam started in September of 1995 in Montevideo, Uruguay. Their first single, "Emergent", was recorded by Martin Lopez (Amon Amarth; Opeth; Soen) on drums, Martin Mendez (Opeth) on bass, Pablo Magallanes (Scarpoint) on guitars, and Jose Romero (Inner Sanctum) on guitars/vocals. This track along with six other compositions gave place to Eternal (EP, 1995-2013), opus that sums up their early style, showing their initial influences of death/black melodic metal intertwined with Rioplatense folk and classical music.

In 1998, with a new line-up having Fabian Redondo on drums, Marcelo Aguilar on bass, and Jose Romero, they released their first LP, "Eternally Dying", which became the precursor of death/black metal in Latin America. The video clip of "Infamy" was broadcast by MTV Latinoamérica and MTV Brazil. The "Eternally Tour" (1999-2001) included numerous shows in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

After publishing the book on philosophy "Forbidden Writings" in 2002, Romero emigrated to the USA, where jointly with Maciej Kupiszewski on bass and Alex Hernandez (Immolation) on drums, they released the LP "Philosopher" in 2004, recorded and mixed at Big Blue Meenie Studios in New Jersey by Joe Pedulla and Arun Venkatesh (Overkill; All Out War) and mastered in New York by Tom Hutten (Iggy Pop; Foo Fighters). Philosopher's release show was at CBGB's in NYC days before the legendary venue closed. The video clip of "Liberty" is based on takes from this event.

Between 2013 and 2016, the "Emergent Tour" included several shows in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay, promoting their CD/DVD "Emergent", work containing rarities that summarize the band's history as well as their complete official videography between 1995-2013.

Requiem Aeternam are the pioneers of "Philosophical Metal", new artistic-scientific discipline in which philosophy gets intertwined with music both musically and lyrically. The five albums of the band have been edited/distributed by various labels in different parts of the world.
